Keep Hawai'i Snake Free
Hawai'i has no wild snake populations (with the exception of a tiny, burrowing worm snake). Hawai'i ‘s native bird species evolved without exposure to snake predators. This is true for other islands and their native birds. The introduction of the brown tree snake in Guam resulted in the extinction of 9 of 13 endemic birds.
Honolulu Zoo snakes were illegally imported and surrendered to State of Hawai'i Department of Agriculture. Snakes are illegal to import, possess, and transport in Hawai'i.
Penalties include a Class C felony, up to 3 years in jail and a fine up to $200,000.
They are a threat to endangered, endemic birds.
